Suya River, Xingu Province, Amazonia, Brazil: Chief of the Suya tribe and Per Fronth bids farewell one misty morning along the Suya river in August 1996. But before the departure in to the small carved out wooden boats we exchanged gifts; underwater goggles for a beautiful headdress.

Border of Xingu Park, Brazil, 1998

In the middle of Brazil's once inaccessible rainforest, along the beautiful Xingu river, 16 different tribes share a common territory known as the Xingu Park. Spread out in 29 villages the four thousand Indians share a preservation of 12000-square-miles and continue to maintain clearly different languages, traditions and social structures.Through archeological studies one have established the origin of these peoples back more than a thousand years in the same area.

"Xingu Chronicles" is a photographic portrait of the Xingu culture, which at the end of the 20th-century is both threatened by profit-seeking multi-national companies, as well as facing the dilemmas of adjusting to the cultural influence of the outside modern society.
